US headed off the "fiscal cliff"

112th Congress: least productive since 1947

Word from Congress in the final hours of 2012 is that there will be no vote on the fiscal cliff.  No agreement, no compromise, no deal.  There were some signs of hope as President Obama stated an agreement was "within sight."  Now it seems the United States will go over the fiscal cliff and our legislative process is completely broken.

What does that mean to the American people?
  • Income tax rates will go up!  Taxes on your income, the most taxes you pay throughout the year, will go up as follows:
    • 10% --> 15%
    • 15% --> 28%
    • 25% --> 31%
    • 28% --> 36%
    • 33% --> 39.6%
  •  Capital Gains rate rise from 15 to 20% for most people.  A capital gain is a profit from the sale of an asset, such a stocks, bonds or real estate.
  • Automatic spending cuts to defense budget of $55 billion in 2013
  • Reduction in the child tax credit from $1,000 per child under 17, to $500 per child under 17
What do we do about it?  Well, 75% of Congress is selected due to gerrymandering, where the representative answers to no one and does not fear the loss of the seat.  They are almost untouchable.

Enter FireBothParties.com.  This site is dedicated to regaining control of Congress to represent the people...not its own interests.  Please stay tuned as we will gather a petition of concerned citizens who pledge to get rid of the incumbents - Senators and members of the House of Representatives.  Democrats and Republicans alike.  The two party system of the Congress is no longer working.

Join us as we pledge to FireBothParties!
